Everton Football Club is an English Premier League football club based in Liverpool, England. The club is famous for competing in more top flight league seasons than any other team in the country. Everton was founded in 1878 as St. Domingo FC but changed their name to the familiar Everton soon after. Because of their location, they have an intense rivalry with Liverpool FC, and the two teams compete in the Merseyside Derby each season.

They have proven themselves to be one of the most successful in English football history. They won 9 First Division championships (1890–91, 1914–15, 1927–28, 1931–32, 1938–39, 1962–63, 1969–70, 1984–85, 1986–87), 5 FA Cups (1906, 1933, 1966, 1984, 1995), 9 Charity Shields (1928, 1932, 1963, 1970, 1984, 1985, 1986 (shared), 1987, 1995), and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1985. Everton currently plays all of their home matches in Goodison Park, which opened its doors in 1892. The club previously played at Liverpool's current home, Anfield, but a rent dispute caused the Toffees to build their own stadium.
