The Colorado Rapids are an original MLS franchise and are based in Denver, Colorado. The Rapids have been an average team throughout their history, but have had some bright spots. These include an MLS Cup final appearance in in 1997 and a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final appearance in 1999. The club have had an ongoing rivalry with Real Salt Lake ever since RSL was founded in 2005. The two compete in the Rocky Mountain Cup each year with the Rapids winning in 2005 and 2006.
