BV Borussia Dortmund is a German Bundesliga club based in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia. They are widely regarded as one of the best/most successful football clubs in all of Germany. Dortmund was founded in 1909 by a group of men unhappy with their previous club. The club had some flashes of success in the Third Reich's Gauliga, but their real breakthrough came years later. They are known to be intense rivals with FC Schalke 04. Dortmund was one of the original 16 Bundesliga clubs in 1963. The club has seen most of its success occur in the 60's, 90's, and early 2000's. They have won 6 German championships (1956, 1957, 1963, 1995, 1996, 2002), 3 of those being in the Bundesliga. They've also won two German Cups, three DFB-Supercups, two Fuji-Cups, and a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. They acheived ultimate European club success when they won the UEFA Champions League title in 1997.
