The Colorado Avalanche are an NHL hockey team based in Denver, Colorado. The team plays host to other teams in its arena, the Pepsi Center. The Avalanche play within the Northwest Division in the Western Conference of the NHL. The team was originally known as the Quebec Nordiques until they were moved to Colorado in 1995. The Colorado Avalanche had immediate success after moving from Quebec as they won the Stanley Cup in 1996. They also won the cup again in 2001. The team has won eight division titles and even reached the playoffs for the first ten seasons that they were based in Denver. 2007 was the first season that the team could not make the playoffs and was a major disappointment for the fans. The team has made a number of moves recently and has a good mix of young talent and veteran leadership but struggles to find consistency.

Most of the consistency issues lie in goal. The team has been switching between Peter Budaj and Andrew Raycroft all season and neither one has been able to take over the starting goaltender job.
