There are some NBA franchises that just find it hard to rebound from losing a great player or just struggle to create a winning formula, but some times these teams get lucky and grab one or two key players at the right time and that is exactly what happened to the Atlanta Hawks.
About two years ago if you said you wanted to go see an Atlanta Hawks game people would think you are crazy, the Hawks were so bad that if somehow you landed on a channel broadcasting one of their games you would instantly change it without a second thought.
After a couple great moves to upgrade a team in the dumps the Atlanta Hawks became legit contenders in the East once more. It hard road trying to rebound from losing players like Spud Webb and Dominique Wilkins in the past, but it has finally happened and the Hawks back with a vengeance.
With the addition of sharp shooting Joe Johnson, a defensive force in the paint in Josh Smith and a floor general in Mike Bibby the Hawks are relevant once again in a much improved Eastern conference. They still have a ways to go to reach the level of say the Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers or Boston Celtics, but the Hawks are a fun team to watch and can beat any of the best in the East on any given night.
Last season the Hawks reached the playoffs for the first time in quite some time and took the NBA champion Celtics the distance in seven games, Atlanta played with a fire and intensity that was sorely lacking in past years. By taking the Champs the limit, the Hawks found out they can be contenders again and have played that way ever since.
