|About the Lion King on Broadway|
Inspired by the 1994 movie by the same name, choreographer Garth Fagan brought The Lion King to the stage in 1997. This Tony Award winning production continues to delight audiences of all ages as it tours the United States and Canada. The Lion King tells the tale of Simba, a lion cub whose evil uncle leads him to believe that his fathers death is his fault. Creeping away to a self-imposed exile, he leaves the door open for his uncle to claim the kingdom but is persuaded years later to return and depose the usurper that has held his people in misery.
The most memorable thing people take away from this remarkable show is the creative staging. The costumes are so realistic that you soon forget that there are actors inside them. Realistic and colorful tropical birds fly above your head while life sized giraffes, hyenas, lions and other wild creatures draw you into their world so completely that the audience actually feels as if they are in the middle of a jungle!
