Inspired by the 1994 movie by the same name, choreographer Garth Fagan brought The Lion King to the stage in 1997. The Lion King tells the tale of Simba, a lion cub whose evil uncle leads him to believe that his fathers death is his fault. Creeping away to a self-imposed exile, he leaves the door open for his uncle to claim the kingdom but is persuaded years later to return and depose the usurper that has held his people in misery.
