Mosley got his first unanimous decision loss upon meeting Vernon Forrest on January 26, 2002, in a fight for WBC welterweight title. He suffered the same decision in a rematch on July 20, 2002.

He lost the WBC and WBA world light middleweight titles he got from De La Hoya to Winky Wright on March 13, 2004 by unanimous decision. He lost the rematch on November 20, 2004 by majority decision.
