American boxer Mickey “Irish” Ward started his professional career at the age of 20, after winning three New England Golden Gloves titles, by giving David Morin TKO in first round of their fight. Accompanied with his Irish luck, Ward continued to won 14 consecutive fights after his professional debut. Ward hung his gloves for three years in 1991 after consecutively losses four fights before coming back again in 1994 to win most of his fights up to 2003 by way of KO or TKO.

Feared by his opponents for his ability to patiently withstand any punches thrown before blowing his devastating left hook, Ward was famous for dropping his opponents in the late rounds by a single shoot to the body.

In the 18 years span of professional career, Ward has fought 51 fights with a record of 38-13 (27 KOs). Three of his matches: once against Emanuel Augustus on July 13, 2001 and twice against Arturo Gatti on May 18, 2002 and on June 7, 2003 was awarded The Fight of the Year by The Ring Magazine in their respective years. Retiring on 2003 after his last fight with Gatti, Mickey Ward is regarded as a source of inspiration for the blue-collar working class for his ability to overcome difficulties in his life through determination and hardwork.
