His love for boxing, apparent at the age of 12, made Lennox “The Lion” Lewis focused his effort on boxing after finishing high school. His effort was paid off when he won his first gold medal at the World Junior Championship in 1983. Lewis got his second gold medal, as a member of Team Canada, in 1998 Seoul Summer Olympics.
After obtaining the Olympics’ gold Lewis turned professional and went on to win the European title in 1990, British heavyweight title in 1991, and the Commonwealth title in 1992, making him the then consensus top-five heavyweight in the world.
When Riddick Bowe, whom Lewis knocked down in the second round of the 1998 Olympics final match, refused to fight Lewis in defending his WBC title, WBC declared his title vacant. The WBC then crowned Lewis, being in a position as the No. 1 contender in the WBC world ranking, as its champion in January 14 1993, making him the first British boxer titleholder in the 20th century. Yaytickets.com sells all range of boxing matches.
Lewis successfully defended his title three times before unexpectedly suffered a technical knock-out from Oliver McCall on September 24 1994. He paid McCall his debt back in a rematch for the WBC heavyweight title on February 7 1997.
Lewis got his WBA and IBF title in a 1999 match against Evander Hollyfield. He lost both title to Hasim Rahman in April 2001 by a fifth round KO. True to his pay back style, Lewis knocked Rahman out in the fourth round in November 2001 rematch.
Lewis closed his professional career on February 6 2004 with a mind-blowing record of 41-2-1, 32 KOs. He is now an HBO boxing commentator but make sure you stay tune to Yaytickects.com to ensure you will not miss any surprise match from this amazing boxer. |
