Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik from the city of Youngstown, Ohio, began boxing at the tender age of 9. Trained by Jack Loew from Youngstown’s South Side Boxing Gym, one of his amateur career achievements is winning the 1999 U.S. National Under-19 amateur champion.
Soon after graduating from Lowelville High School and Mahoning County Joint Vocational School in 2000, Pavlik became a professional boxer. After winning his next 26 fights mostly by way of technical knock out, he earned his NABF middleweight title on October 7 2005 after knocking Fulgencio Zuniga down in round 9.
His most incredible moment came when he met Jermain Taylor in September 29 2007. After being knocked down in the second round, Pavlik paved his way slowly to turn the tide. He defeated Jermain Taylor with TKO in round 7, crowning him the new WBC and WBO middleweight champion. A non-title rematch on February 16 2008, gave Pavlik his second win from Taylor, this time by unanimous decision.
He successfully defended his titles from Gary Lockett on June 7 2008 by sending kissing the canvass in round three and from Marco Antonio Rubio on February 21 2009 by technical round in the ninth round.
The only loss that Pavlik experience to date was when he met Bernard Hopkins, a boxer who unified all 4 of the Middleweight World Championship title belts in 2004, on October 18 2008 in a 170lb catch weigh contest.
On June 27 2009, Pavlik is scheduled to fight Sergio Mora at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey. Check Yaytickets.com to find more information about the tickets. |
